What we’re fishing for

The waters surrounding La Ventana and the greater coastline of Baja California Sur are home to some of the most exciting saltwater fly fishing in the world.

Depending on conditions and season, anglers may target:

Roosterfish – the iconic Baja species and a bucket-list catch

Jack Crevalle – powerful fighters that test every angler

Sierra Mackerel – fast, aggressive coastal predators

Skipjack and other pelagic species

Fishing these rich waters of the Sea of Cortez with experienced local guides gives anglers access to productive coastal zones that are difficult to explore on your own.

Why fish Baja?

The waters of the Sea of Cortez are legendary among saltwater anglers.

Just offshore from La Ventana, warm currents, rocky coastline, and nutrient-rich waters create ideal conditions for powerful game fish that thrive along Baja’s shoreline.

For fly anglers, this region of Baja California Sur offers a rare combination of accessibility and excitement. Many productive fishing grounds are reached quickly by boat, allowing anglers to spend more time casting and less time traveling.

Roosterfish, jacks, and other coastal predators patrol these waters year-round, creating opportunities for thrilling sight casting and unforgettable fights.

Fishing here isn’t just about the catch—it’s about standing on the bow of a boat at sunrise, scanning the water for movement, and feeling the sudden pull of a wild fish in one of the most beautiful marine environments on the planet.

The Casa Verde Experience

After an early, hot, and hearty breakfast, you’ll head out with experienced local guides to fish the rich coastal waters of the Sea of Cortez—casting for roosterfish, jacks, and other prized species that cruise Baja’s shoreline.

Packed lunches keep you fueled while you explore different fishing areas throughout the day.

By late afternoon, you’ll return to Casa Verde to relax, swap stories from the day’s catches, and watch the sun sink into the desert hills. A fully catered dinner is provided, often using your days catch and embracing the delicious Baja cooking style.
